Indian Forest Service Syllabus 2024: Union Public Service Commission has released the IFS Main Examination Dates. Now, applicants can start preparation according to latest Indian Forest Service Syllabus.
IFS Main Exam will be conducted from 02-12-2024 to 10-12-2024. UPSC will conduct the General English and General Knowledge Exam on 02-12-2024. Botany Paper- I / Mathematics Paper-I / Statistics Paper-I Paper will be conducted on 04-12-2024.

Indian Forest Service Preliminary Syllabus
Paper 1:
Topics covered in UPSC IFS Pre Syllabus are as follows:
- Current events of national and international importance
- History of India and Indian National Movement
- Indian and World Geography- Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
- Indian Polity and Governance- Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc
- Economic and Social Development- Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social
- Sector Initiatives, etc
- General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
- General Science
Paper 2:
Topics covered in IFS Exam Syllabus are as follows:
- Comprehension
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)

Indian Forest Service Mains Syllabus
General English:
Topics covered in IFS Mains Syllabus are as follows:
- Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.
- Passages will usually be set for summary or précis
General Knowledge:
- General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.
- The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of a nature which the candidate should be able to answer without special study
Optional Subjects:
Topics covered in IFS Mains are as follows:
- Total number of questions in the question papers of optional subjects will be eight. All questions will carry equal marks.
- Each paper will be divided into two parts, viz. Part A and Part B, each part containing four questions. Out of eight questions, five questions are to be attempted.
- One question in each part will be compulsory. Candidates will be required to answer three more questions out of the remaining six questions, taking at least one question from each Part.
- In this way, at least two questions will be attempted from each Part i.e. one compulsory question plus one more.

Indian Forest Service Exam Pattern
IFS Preliminary Exam Pattern
- Prelims examination consists of Paper I and Paper II which includes General Studies and Aptitude Test.
- Exam will be commenced in two different languages i.e. Hindi as well as English.
- Along with this, it is crucial to have thorough knowledge of General Studies and Aptitude.
- Time duration will be 2 hours. Those who are blind, will be given few extra minutes to solve the paper
- For every incorrect answer, /3 marks of the total marks will be deducted

IFS Mains Exam Pattern
- The mains examination will consist of two parts i.e. written examination and personality test.
- The written examination for IFS mains will consist of 6 papers.
- Paper 1 and paper 2 will be on General English and General Knowledge respectively for 300 marks each.
- Paper 3, 4,5 and 6 will be set on any two subjects out of the optional subjects as chosen by the candidate. Each paper will be of 200 marks.
- The total marks for UPSC IFS mains examination are 1400.
- Candidates who qualify the mains exam will be called to appear for the personality test/interview.
- The interview of Indian Forest Service Exam will be for 300 marks with no minimum qualifying marks.
